DPS Surcharges for Certain Convictions and Driver's License Suspensions

If after suspension, you ever want to get your driver's license back, DPS will have to get their money before you're license will be reinstated.
For convictions for an offense relating to the operation of a motor vehicle (DWI):
a. $1,000 per year for 3 years (if no conviction for an offese relating to driving while intoxicated within the preceding 36 month period
b. $1,500 per year for 3 years (if second or subsequent conviction within 36 month period of first conviction
c. $2,000 per year for 3 years (ofr first or subsequent conviction, if show at trial that defendant's blood-alcohol concentration was .016 or more at the time of offense)
For conviction for driving without a valid license or without financial responsibility:
a. $250 per year, if during the preceding 36 month period the person has been convicted of an offense under Trans 521.457, 601.191, or 601.371
For conviction for driving without a valid license
a. $100 per year, if during the preceeding 36 month period the person has been convicted of an offense udner Transp 521.021.
