Automatic Driver's License Suspension on Conviction of Driving Related Offenses

If you are CONVICTED of one of these driving related offenses, your DL will be suspended for:

1. Accident involving personal injury or death

a. 1 year

b. 18 months if subsequent suspension

2. Any felony offense under the state motor vehicle laws

a. 1 year

b. 18 months if subsequent suspension

3. Criminally negligent homicide (by a motor vehicle)

a. 1 year

b. 18 months if subsequent suspension

4. Evading arrest or detention (with motor vehicle)

a. 1 year

b. 18 months if subsequent suspension

5. Fictitious license, registration, or inspection

a. 180 days

6. License or certificate violations

a. 90 days to 1 year

7. Manslaughter (with a motor vehicle)

a. 1 year

b. 18 months if subsequent conviction

8. Racing on a highway

a. 1 year

9. Operating a motor vehicle on a highway while person's license was suspended, canceled, disqualified, or revoked, or without a license after an application for license was denied

a. lesser term of original suspension or 1 year

10. Habitually reckless or negligent operator of a motor vehicle

a. 90 days

11. Habitual violator of the traffic laws

a. 90 days

12. Permiting the unlawful or fraudulent use of the person's license

a. 90 days

13. Committing an offense in another state or Canadian province that would be grounds for suspension if committed in Texas

a. 90 days

14. Convicted of 2 or more separate offenses of a violation of a restriction imposed on the use of the license

a. 90 days

15. Responsible as a driver for any accident resulting in serious personal injury or serious property damage

a. 90 days

16. Holder of a provisional license issued to a person under 21 and has been convicted of 2 or more moving violations committed within a 12 month period

a. 90 days

17. Committing the offense of feeling or attempting to elude police offcer

a. 90 days
