Occupation Driver's License - Effective date of Order Granting Occupational Driver's License

If your driver's license is suspended, you may need to get an occupation driver's license. This will allow you to go to and from work or school, but you will be restricted as to when and where you can drive.
The effective date of an occupational driver's license varies depending upon the reason for the suspension and whether the person has ahd a prior driver's license suspension. In other words, you may have to WAIT until you are able to drive again.
If you have had no prior suspensions arising from an alcohol related or drug related enforcement contact in the 5 years preceding the arrest:
a. your occupational driver's license will be immediately effective
If your license has been suspended as a result of an alcohol related or drug related enforcement contact in the 5 years preceding the arrest:
a. your occupational driver's license will be effective 91 days after effective date of suspension
If the suspension was the result of a conviction for DWI, intoxication assualt, or intoxication manslaughter, during the 5 years preceding the arrest:
a. your occupational driver's license will be effective 181 days after effective date of suspension.
If your suspension was a result of a second or subsequent conviction for DWI, intoxication assault, or intoxication manslaughter, committed within 5 years of the most recent preceding offense:
a. you will not be able to get an occupation driver's license until 1 year after effective date of suspension
